Another Flimsy

My completed flimsy top for St. Anne's.  I took a  24 by 42 panel and cut off the blocks at top and bottom. Then added a blue solid around it. I then made some row blocks and added them to the blocks and set them on the sides.  Then took a green solid to finish at 37 x 35 - a more useable size for a baby quilt.  It now goes to other St. Anne's workers to sandwich, tie and bind.

Now why don't textile manufacturers make panels that are more to this size.  It would make it so easy to make a baby quilt in no time at all.  What are you working on?

Another TAPS quilt!

Thought I would share a Red, White and Blue quilt I received from a friend that needed binding. I added the red binding which she supplied. It is for TAPS - Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, an organization that provides support to the Families of fallen service members RWB quilts or crocheted blankets are always needed for the “Good Grief Camp”. For more info: http://www.taps.org/

Jacquelyn used the Double Slice Layer Cake pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Co. http://quiltingtutorials.com/all/double-slice-layer-cake-quilt-tutorial/

She also made a great choice by adding borders containing that busyness and making the quilt a wonderful size (50”x60”). With the polka dot flannel backing, this quilt is full of comforting hugs.

Wonderful quilt Jacquelyn!

VA Lap Quilt

I finished the 6th quilt top for the VA hospital.  I've sent it off to my guild member partner who will quilt it.  I learned a few things in making this one.

I learned I could use that trick of making pinwheels from just two squares when the leftover fabric wasn't big enough to cut a 9 1/2"  square from it. See here if you would like photos. She made her pinwheels using 5" blocks because she was using charm packs.  Then she cut down the pinwheel block.  Here's what I did:  By using 8"  squares, sewing all around the edges, cutting twice on the diagonal and assembling my pinwheel I could get my 9 1/2"  square for the quilt.  One is a bit catwompus because I didn't true it up correctly.  I needed to cut half of the oversize off on the first cut, and then the rest on the second cut.

The fabric you see around it is the piece that will be the back. I plan to use a navy to bind it.
